6/ZG26 Me 410A shot down 13.05.44

Hello to all,

I am searching for further information regarding the loss of Me 410A-1 Wnr.420456 coded 3U + HP shot down in combat and crashed at Crossen on the 13.05.44. I only have some details regarding the Bordfunker Uffz Franz Temme who was killed in the crash. Does anyone have the WASt Verlustmeldung for this loss? I would like to know who was the pilot of the aircraft and who possibly shot them down?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards

Melvin

Both the 355th and 357th FG scored on 410's on 13 May on way to Posnan.. I believe the 355th scores were in Landsburg area and 357 near Grunburg

Thanks drgondog for that info, will check the map to see which likely candidates have got this Me 410. The pilot of the Me 410 was Ofw Siegfried Haase, he also lost his life in the crash.

Melvin

I believe they were rather Landsberg (now Gorzow Wielkopolski) and Grunberg (now Zielona Gora).

Mike

Re: 6/ZG26 Me 410A shot down 13.05.44

first Mike is correct on Landsberg, etc

The 355th made RV north of Landsberg at ~ 1440. The task force split one force going toward Posnan and the second to Politz. Two suadrons of the 355th (354 and 357) stayed with Politz group and the 358FS went to Posnan for a round trip of 1490 miles.

The 354 engaged first a 'stalking' Ju 88, the met a force of 15-20 Me 410s attacking the bomber force from head on - out of the ese - east of Landberg.. approximately 1450-1510.. claiming six, awarded five plus a damaged plus the 'Ju 88' which could have been a Me 410 also.

Dix and Morris got two apiece, Henry Brown got one, Jacobson claimed one but received a Damaged' Me 410. Fortier shot down the Ju 88 in this area.

A flight of 354 Mustangs happened on a Hs 129 near the deck east of Landsberg and shot it down also. In addition they shot down several Fw 190s near Hannover on the way home.

Lt Col Dix was leading 355th FG at head of 354FS
