Battle of Britain Me109
I have a piece of a BoB Me109, with the engine block number.
I am informed it is a 9/JG51 E-4 w/n 2803, downed at Skinners Corner Mascalls, Near Paddock Wood at 1420 hours on the 15th Sepetmber 1940. Lt F Klotz killed as a result of an explosion. The piece bears the following numbers : 109.909-0634 205-4 Is there any publication that can link this engine number to the airframe, other than passed on information that this is where it came from? Picture of relevant details shown. As always. your help greatly appreciated. Rgds Graham |

Re: Battle of Britain Me109
Hi,
The numbers you show, cast in the metal, appear to be part/casting numbers rather than an engine number. The DB engine numbers that I have come across previously have either been painted on the block, stamped on a key engine part, or stamped/etched onto an alloy manufacturer plate riveted onto a key engine part. However, I accept that I may be totally wrong! Regards David |
