When did 1.F/123 commence using Ju88

I would like to know when did 1.F/123 commence using the Ju88 and when was the changeover completed, please.

Have a look here on Michael Holm's site http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/aufkl/b1ag123.html

This shows 1(F)./123 operating two Ju88D-2s in March 1942 and being completely given over to Ju 88s by April 1943.

Thanks Andy,

I am thinking earlier perhaps sometime in 1940. This unit lost two Ju88's in Ireland one in 1941 and another a year later. I am of the opinion that the Do17 operated alongside the Ju88 during the changeover, the question is when? Best wishes Andy.

Hi

The earliest i have is one loss ...

W.Nr. unknown Ju 88 A 1.(F)/123 05.06.1940 (Ziffer 20 on reporting date 07.06.40)
[BA-MA RL 2 III/1174 Verband loss reports fm 03.06.1940 to 02.09.1940] but sorry I have not entered the other crew or location details yet as W.Nr. is unknown...

A little more...

- 1.(F)/123
First war loss was an Do 17 P which force landed near the Swiss border 23.11.1939.
Was in France 04.09.1940 (Luftflotte 3) and had the Ju 88 A and Do 17 P. (Flying its 500th mission from Paris/Buc). On 07.09.1940 it had ten Ju 88 & Do 17 in the Paris area. In January 1941 it was under direct control of Luftflotte 3 (Western Europe) and had the Ju 88 A and D based at Jersey. The unit was under Luftflotte 3 had Ju 88, Bf 110 and Fw 190 in Operation Cerberus/Donnerkeil on 11/12.02.1942. It was under AufKlGr 123, Luftflotte 3, and using Ju 88, Bf 109 and Bf 110 on 10.07.1942. Transferring to Angriffsfúhrer England/Fliegerkorps IX and using only the Ju 88 on 10.06.1943. Operating under Luftflotte 2, Fliegerkorps II (Italy) and facing Operation Husky (Allied landings) 10.07.1943 using the Ju 88. Order of Battle (Aegian), under Fliegerkorps X, in October 1943 using the Ju 88. In late 1943 to 1944 the unit was based at Perugia, North-East of Rome, with the Ju 88 and Ju 188. On 01.06.1944 it was under command of FAGr 122, Luftflotte 2 in Italy (along with 2.(F)/122 and Wekusta 26) and using the Ju 88. On 10.04.1945 it had nine Ar 234 Jets (three operational) under Fliegerdivision 14.
