Bf110 losses

Hi guys

I have been trawling Armand Van Ishoven's 'Messerschmitt Bf110 at War' and request information concerning the following Bf110 losses:

9/5/41: G9+BC of 11/NJG1 shot down by own flak (Ullenbeck)

9/41: TD+GP crashed when signal flares ignited in cockpit

10/41 TB+CK pilot dazzled by searchlight - crashed and crew killed

12/41 M8+HN 4/ZG76 pilot dazzled by searchlight - crashed and crew killed

31/10/43 D5+AD of 11/NJG1 shot down by own flak (Sigmund)

Cheers
Brian

Not an answer as such Brian, but you could try asking your question on this forum:

Brian: A very cursory glance in Balss' books comes up with nothing

Re: Bf110 losses

Good Morning,

for most planes i haven't made the correlation between Stammkennzeichen and other data yet.
------------
9/5/41: G9+BC of 11/NJG1 shot down by own flak (Ullenbeck):

made a belly landing close to Schleswig airfield, pilot Ltn. Gustav Uellenbeck, no casualties. A photo is shown on page 427 of M.Balss second book (Materialverluste). I have nor WNr or name of the radio-op.
------------
10/41 TB+CK pilot dazzled by searchlight - crashed and crew killed

this could be this loss:

23.10.1941 9./NJG 1 Bf 110 D-3 (4229) 100% H
(F) Ltn. Kapfer, Herbert [gef.]
(Bf) Uffz. Brust, Kurt [gef.]
Leesten, bei Zutphen (NL); bei Scheinwerferflug abgestürzt

Source: GQM and Balss, Materialverluste, p.39
(crashed during searchlight flight; both KIFA)
------------
I still have to check the other planes, hope these are the right planes and helps a little.

Regards from Karlsruhe, Germany,
Uwe

Re: Bf110 losses

Hi Brian,
now i try for the next two ..
-----------
12/41 M8+HN 4/ZG76 pilot dazzled by searchlight - crashed and crew killed

there was no II./ZG76 in 12/41, it was redesignated III./NJG 3 in 11/41. Let's have a look at the nightfighters for this one ...

My guess:
8.12.1941 9./NJG 3 Bf 110 D-2 (3450, M8+HN) 100% H
(F) Uffz. Angrim, Einar [gef.]{* 28.2.1919]
(Bf) Ogfr. Boel, Ruppert [gef.]
200m NE Berkheim, b. Esslingen; bei Scheinwerferübungsflug durch Blendwirkung abgestürzt

ok, now in English: crashed due to searchlight dazzling, Berkheim/Esslingen is close to the today's Stuttgart-Echterdingen airport. In 1941, some nightfighter training units had their home at Echterdingen.

This loss listed in GQM-tables and Balss, Materialverluste p.49
-----------

31/10/43 D5+AD of 11/NJG1 shot down by own flak (Sigmund)

this one i have for Oct. 3rd, 1943 ...

3./4.10.1943 Stab III./NJG 3 Bf 110 G-4 (5560, D5+AD) 100% F
(F) Hptm. Sigmund, Rudolf [gef.]
(Bf) Fw Bauer, Hugo [gef.]
(Bm) Uffz. Dittrich, Johannes [gef.]
südwestl. Göttingen, am "Fassberg"; Absturz nach Luftkampf um 22.25 Uhr

source: GQM and Obermeier, Ritterkreuzträger, p.206
-----------

Cheers,
Uwe

Re: Bf110 losses

Hi Uwe

Thanks a million!

I really do appreciate your input, this has helped tremendously and puts you in line for a MiD!

Any idea about the 110 that crashed in September 1941 after signal flares had ignited in the cockpit? The books says TD+GP but could this have been TB+GP?

Should you 'discover' any further similar incidents, please do let me know.

Cheers
Brian
