Re: Skeleton of Flyer found in New Guinea

How can be possible that this body stay that long exposed and did not reported to any of local authorities? At least I hope that the victim will have funeral ceremony as it deserve. No matter who he was and on what side he fought for, it is over now and he have to rest in peace.

The TIGHAR quick response team are currently dealing with the Welsh P-38 (ludicrously named "Maid of Harlech")....so it could be a while!

I thought they were busily RAISING MONEY for that project....it will take BILLIONS of DOLLARS and YEARS of effort to sift every grain of sand looking for Amelias other shoe heel!

Re: Skeleton of Flyer found in New Guinea

Hello,

Some years ago, investigating on some site of crash in France, an old man told me that in the winter of 1946 or 1947, he was working as forestry worker and as they cut down a tree, some part of a squeleton fell with the tree.
The squeleton had still some harness on it.
The workers kept this for them and buried what was left of the body.
I think that certainly many airmen still missing were lost hanged in big trees or fell on it and stayed there for some time in forest .

Alain.

DEFENCE MEDIA RELEASE

> DISCOUNTED - KOKODA TRACK REPORT
>
> Australian Defence Force staff from the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby today reached an isolated site on the Kokoda Track to check reports that the body of an airman was located in the jungle canopy.
>
> No remains were located.
>
> While the location, near Kagi, is below a flight path that was commonly used by allied aircraft during WWII sorties, the find has been confirmed by ADF staff as a moss covered branch.
>
> It appears the branch has broken off the main tree and fallen across some vines, which from the ground, could have been confused with the body of an airman.
