The western front, 1943-1945 Istrebitelnye of a part luftwaffe.
Kameraden, any interests information about participation of volunteers-Scandinavians (Danes, Norwegians, Swedes, Icelanders) on the given battlefield. Whether were such, whether were formed of them staffel or at least swarm? |

Leo,
A good start for research about this subject is: Hans Werner Neulen In the Skies of Europe Air forces allied to the Luftwaffe 1939-1945. Ramsbury, 2000. Jaap |

There were both Danes and Norwegians serving in the Luftwaffe. I believe this has already been discussed before on these pages. There is a Danish page (which I thought I had a bookmark on, but I don't), which gives more details. As far as I know there were no Swedes in the Luftwaffe, although there were plenty who volunteered for the ground forces and joined various SS organisations, not only Waffen SS unfortunately. Re: Whether there were volunteers-Scandinavians in luftwaffe?
While I would still recommend Hans Werner Neulen's book on this subject, I might add this link
http://www.danishww2pilots.dk/articles.php?id=11 One name is missing: Börge Darr, who is mentioned by Neulen. On the other hand it might be wrong to relate Captain Lærum to Luftwaffe even if Paul E. Ancker, who has written extensively on the Danish militaty air force does so. That is what I have been told by people that I trust very much on this topic. Some of the information presented by me on the website is still debated, and my article should be no means be seen as conclusive. This is not my area of expertise as such, which is the case of other Danish researchers - some participating on this forum. Regarding the theatre of operation, the Danes mainly fought on the eastern front, though Poul Sommer was attached to II./JG27 and IV./JG27 in Northern Africa and in Greece. Mikkel Plannthin
