78 Sqn History

Hello

As you can see from my log in and the title of this thread I am interested in anything connected with 78 Squadron 4 Group Bomber Command 1939 - 1945. I am currently in the final stages of writing a book on the operational history of the Squadron and would love to hear from anyone who has anything that they think may be of interest. Also if anyone has any particular questions relating to the Squadron then feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer them.

Thanks

Daz

Hello Daz,

Perhaps I can help you further on detail level with some 17 events in which 78 Squadron was involved over NW Holland, mainly losses and bombardments.

By coincidence, do you perhaps have the individual letters for Whitley P4950 and Z9132 and Halifax JD145, JD417 and W7930?
These individual letters are not listed in the ORB, but perhaps you have these on file as a result of cross references with other documents?

Feel free to contact me directly at hnautaATquicknetDOTnl. Replace AT and DOT with the obvious symbols.

Best regards,
Hans Nauta

Hans

thank you for your post, I don't have any information to hand as I am currently working away from home but I think the Halifaxes were lost mid 1943 so I may well have the Sqn letters. I will send you an email.

Regards

Daz

Hi Daz,

I can provide you with the basic information on some 41 aircraft losses over Holland by 78 Sqdn. All Whitley's and Halifaxes.

Kind regards Bas

Re: 78 Sqn History

I can provide some more "local colour" on the few 78 Sqn machines which crashed in East Anglia.
