remains of Mosquito PZ174 recovered

Hello all,

In Woubrugge/Holland the remains of a Mosquito are being recovered at this moment. It concerns Mosquito PZ174 of 23 Squadron which crashed there on 21 July 1944. Both crew members died. This event gets a lot of attention in both local and national newspapers. Here are some links (sorry, Dutch only):

and even the local municipal created a special website for this:

Re: remains of Mosquito PZ174 recovered

In addition to the previous post:

The two 500 lb bombs were recovered, the first one only 1,5 meters deep, and therefore found much sooner than anticipated. Aircraft parts are in good condition, well preserved by the clay. Some human remains were recovered too (Source: kapt. ing. Paul Petersen, the Airforce officer in charge of the operation), but most were recovered and buried shortly after the crash.

Regards,

Rob Philips
