Unit code 6J+-K in 1939-1940

Can someone help in identifying the use of the unit code 6J+ZK seen
on a Heinkel He 59 in April 1940.
Best regards
Seaplanes

And the letters could be used interchangeably at times, too. I'm not sure what the rules were for this, however.

Re: Unit code 6J+-K in 1939-1940

Hi and thank you for your suggestions. It still remains a mystery to me but if you look at the Küstenfliegerstaffel 1./706 (U) that was formed as a new unit on 20. April 1940, this unit was given the unit code 6I and this was consequently used in all reporting by the unit, no 6J ever seen. However, as you point out, the Germans used I and J as pleased.

The new 1./706 had so many aircraft, about 22-23 on strength, that they had to mark the aircraft as two Staffeln, i.e. 6I+-H and 6I+-K. In theory one of these could be my 6J+ZK. The markings of 6I+XK and 6I+YK are both confirmed in May 1940.

It is 6I+ZK. But in the KTB the I is sometimes written as J.
