Lt Rudolf Wirtgen 1./JG 2

Good night to all!
I am seeking more information about Lt Rudolf Wirtgen from 1 Staffel JG 2, who was killed on 6th October 1944 aboard a Fw 190 A-8, werknummer 171572, white 4.
As far as I have researched he was credited with just one victory over a B-17 ( 1943 )?
How many missions has he flown until his death? Any more details about him ( day of birth? Place of birth? Photo of his plane? )?
Any information is welcomed.

Found out that he claimed 13 kills before being killed on 6th October 1944.
Do need the number of missions flown!

You'll find a few of Wirtgen's 1944 claims described here.

Have you tried to contact Erik Mombeeck? We know that he is working on JG 2 for many years. On his web site (www.luftwaffe.be , he lists the names of persons (including vets and families od KIA) who helped him so far. Among them there is Wirtgen. Just an idea... Phil

Re: Lt Rudolf Wirtgen 1./JG 2

Hi Peglar!
Did Lt Wolfgang Fischer fly with Wirtgen or did he remember the loss of Wirtgen on the 6th October 1944? I do believe that Wirtgen flew with a wingman on his last mission, but I did not find out the name of this second pilot!
Please, ask him if he remember Wirtgen, if you can.
Yours
Adriano
