Re: Beaufort I W6521 of 22 Sqdn

Hi Bas
Ross McNeill, in his book "Coastal Comand Losses Vol 1" has this loss as being Beaufort I, W6522, OA-K shot down into the N Sea by Flak whilst attacking the E-Boat base at Rotterdam, 13/6/41. The Crew is given as:-
P/O J O H Willing,88691
P/O K L Blackmore RCAF,J/3273
Sgt J Parsons,958806
Sgt H K Orme,979251
Willing is buried in Sage War Cemetery(he may have been moved there post-war)
Blackmore and Parsons are buried in Noordwijk General Cemetery
Orme's body was washed ashore on a beach at Hjerling on 18/Aug/1941 and was buried in Fourfelt Cemetery, Esjberg, Denmark
There is no record of another 22 Sqn loss on that date and no mention of the other name in your post.
Culverwell is in Ross' book as being lost on 12/6/41 when he failed to return from a shipping strike to Stavanger,(searching for the Lutzow). He is believed to have been shot down by Ltn Wienhusen. The a/c was W6521,OA-R and the whole crew were lost and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial
Regards
Dick

Re: Beaufort I W6521 of 22 Sqdn

Dick,

Thanks very much for all details.
Much appreciated.

I found PO R.L. Blackmore according to the CWGC register.

Cheers.

Re: Beaufort I W6521 of 22 Sqdn

Hi Bas
The service number on CWGC matches that for Blackmore in Ross' book .Typos of a single initial are not uncommon and in this case the letters were probably not well written in Sqn records, but the full name would have been available to CWGC from his Service Record
Regards
Dick
