Looking for 1st Lt. Philip Sangermano, 325th F

Gentlemen,

I' m looking for pictures and facts about 1st. Lt. Philip Sangermano of 325th Fighter group. Does anyone know how he died? I heard that he was shot down by flak somewhere over northern Italy and picked up by partisans. Unfortunatlely he had been severely wounded and died before a doctor could tend to his wounds. I'm interested in any details.

The MARC shows that he went misssing while on a local test flight (non-combat), departing Lesina, Italy on Dec. 9, 1944.

There's no indication that he or the plane were ever found.

The tale you note is to be read in the Squadron Signal book, "Checkertailes"

" It was learned later that he had been injured when he was shot down and made a crash landing in Italy. Italian farmers pulled him from the wreckage of "Maty Norris", his P51C (aircraft number 61). They hid him from the Germans for two weeks but they were unable to bring in a Doctor to treat his wounds. He died of his injuries and they buried him. After the war , his family had his body exhumed and returned home for a final burial."

1st Lt. Philip Sangermano, AAF-s/n 0-1691694 was buried at Mirandola Cemetary, Italy. Postwar, he found his rest in New Hampshire.

The MACR shows he was flying P-51C, 42-103410, a/c # 45, Nickname of aircraft -None.

I'm gonna guess that the the MACR is a bit more accurate than the Squadron Signal book.

This is new to me as I have not seen the MACR.
Just shows that you cannot beleive all that is in print.
Dwayne M. Tabatt has in his Unit Inventory 42-103581 "61" for Sangermano.
