S/L Jerzy Zaremba, 306 SQ - KIA 14/8/1941

Hi all.
Does anyone know any details about the death of S/L Jerzy Zaremba, CO of 306 (Polish) Squadron who died on 14 August 1941 over Channel? What was the cause of his loss?
Thanks.

Hello,

from ORB kept by the Polish Institute in London :

Circus 73
" S/L Zaremba UZ-Z took off 16h25 (blue section, p/o Choms UZ-P) : support wing to 6 hampdens over St Omer. The squadron was attacked by over 20 Me of which F/Lt Slonski (?) destroyed 2, and Sgt Wieprzkowicz probably destroyed one.F/Lt Zielinski and P/oRuthowski also had combats, but make no claim.
S/L Zaremba, P/O Choms and Sgt Zieba failed to return from this operation".

Zaremba crashed down near Boollezeele ( Dunkirk vicinity)

Stanislaw Zieba force landed near Boulogne sur mer ( Houllefort) and died of wounds the 23 august 1941 in Hardinghen german hospital and has his grave in this locality.

Re

From JG26 war diaries (Donald War Diaries) :
claims JG 26 for the 14/08/1841

lt SCHENK 6/JG26 / 1 Spit :Loon plage 18h30 :confirmed
Oblt SCHEIDER W 6/JG26 / :1 Spit 18h37 Dunkirk :confirmed
Lt Biedermann 9/jg26 / :1 spit 18h35 : confirmed (probably Zieba)

The 3 spits from polish wing 306/308

from this book Circus 73 "sent 6 blenheims (and not hampdens) to bomb the artillery shell factory at Marquise (and not St Omer airfield)

Jan Kremski of 308 Sqn was downed in this combat as well. I think JG2 was also engaged in this fierce fight. The sortie was then considered a success of Northolt Wing.
