Saborowka

Trying to locate Saborowka, an airfield used by II./KG 51 in late Summer 1941.
The only returns I got from Google are for a town near the Kazakh border, which is way off at this time of war.
It should be closer to Leningrad.
Any help will be welcome.

Chris

Re: Saborowka

Hi Chris!

Do you mean II./K.G.51 or J.G.51? The II./K.G.51 flew in late summer 1941 from Balti (until 8.9.41). In December the group flew from Nikolajew and Saporoshje!

II./KG 51
**************************
Jul – Aug 41: from late Jul and through Aug, flew continuous attacks on bridges along the Dnieper, especially around Berislav, in support of 11th Army’s drive toward the Crimean Peninsula.
2 Sep 41: (Lfl.4) - Ju 88A-5 damaged taxying at Fp.Balti-East, 70%, 2 KIA, 2 WIA.
8 Sep 41: withdrawn from operations and ordered back to Wiener-Neustadt for an extended rest and refit.
2 Nov 41: (Lfl.4) - Ju 88A-4 (9K+GR) FTR from ops, 100%, 4 MIA; this may be a German typo and actually should have been III.Gruppe, or perhaps a III.Gruppe aircraft with a II.Gruppe crew.

II./JG 51
*************************
At Bobruisk to August 1941, then to Seshchinskaya to October then to Orel. All on the central sector of the front in Belorussia.

Re: Saborowka

2.Nov.1941- the crew was Ofw.Hellberg, Uffz.Koch, Uffz.Leibinger and Ofw.Seifert(FF), all 7./K.G.51 and KIA. Normaly at this time the Ju88 9K+GR was used by Lt.Poppenburg and his crew.
