Weapon Identity 1941
Hello all,
would anyone be able to identify this item, it is reported to date from May 1941 and the incident involving bombs falling on Dublin, Ireland. Is it perhaps a flare? The holes I have assumed were from deactivation of the item. The bottom of the device under the tail fin assembly has a threaded cap which could be removed using a coin type device to turn a slot in the threaded cap. best regards Dennis |

Re: Weapon Identity 1941
It would appear to be a 1 kg incendiary minus the delayed action explosive nose

Re: Weapon Identity 1941
A nice example of an incendiary bomb as Chris says. May be worth having a specialist check it out as the item could still be filled with a charge - this, if present, can become unstable or ignited relatively easily and thus is still dangerous.

Re: Weapon Identity 1941
Thanks for that information. I've googled it also and I see more about it now.
I'll pass this on to the library that holds it, I'm sure it only made its way to them via the Irish Defence Forces. Would these units be dropped with HE bombs from the same aircraft? Thanks |

Re: Weapon Identity 1941
Hi,
Yes, both could possibly be dropped at the same time from the same aircraft. Regards, David |
