Airborne 2217 10May41 from Marham. Shot down by a night-fighter (Lt Eckart-Wilhelm von Bonin, 11./NJG1) after being coned in searchlights over T_nning, Germany. The aircraft was abandoned leaving behind the Navigator, Sgt Legg, who was believed to be dead. However, Sgt Legg recovered from his severe wounds and was able to control the now deserted bomber into a crash-landing. Sgt Anderson fell into the River Elbe and was drowned. He is buried in Hamburg. This was von Bonin's first night victory. On 10May91, at a special ceremony at Hohn Air Base, Germany, three of the survivors, including Sgt Legg, were introduced to Eckart-Wilhelm von Bonin, whose death was reported in January 1992. Or (Better?), MARCHER ICI for STEP HERE, "ICI" being under the black arrow. Looks better since this writtings is at the wing root which is the "natural" way to step on board. Ouidjat.
