German airfields south of Cracow
Hello!
Do you have any information about two airfields south and southeast of Cracow? I heard it existed, but I didn’t see any documents about it. Airfield in Marszowice / Niegowic area 28 km SE of Cracow, 49.9167 N / 20.2333 E Built-up ca. 1943-44 (hardening of airstrip), but its finishing is uncertain. It was ca. 1100 (east-west) x 600 meters in size. Airfield in Stroza, close to Myslenice 31 km S of Cracow, 49.7918 N / 19.9276 E Organized on a meadow in narrow Raba valley in mid-1943, the personnel (20-30) lived in a manor house and . Its commander (probably Major) was killed by partisans in summer 1944 (?). Small planes landed here and stayed few hours or even 5-7 days. No AAA. Evacuated in January 1945. It was ca. 420 m (southeast-northwest) x 140 m and was available rather for STOL planes like Fi-156. Photo of the area (1930s) is here (airfield was behind the buildings marked X, personnel quarters are pointed by the arrow). http://odkrywca.pl/forum_pics/picsfo...tra_08_dwr.jpg That’s all I know. Any additional information is welcome. Best regards, Piotr |
