RAF Dropped 4000lb Cookie
Can somone confirm if the RAF 4000LB Cookie was airburst only or set to detonate after impact with the ground. I understand they were blast bombs and the blowing off of roofs before the incendiary's arrived would have been the aim...but if airburst what was the usual height of detonation and the expected blast radious at that height?
Also I know the B17 and B24 bombays were small in comparison to the RAF Lancaster and Halifax, but was it only the RAF who used these high explosive blast bomb types, other than the Lufwaffe mines of course. Taking into account the RAF and USAF's differnt targets and aims. Would not a bigger blast bomb been better suited to the destruction of factories also? |
