Re: Looking for VVS airfields info
No books. Just the original Fremde Luftwaffen Ost records at BA-MA Freiburg and on microfilm in RG 242/T-321 at NARA WashDC. Lots of stuff on the VVS in Romania Aug 44 - Apr 45, but it badly scattered over many folders and files. You would have to search through a great deal of material to find the information on Romania.
I have seen this material so I know it exists. There is OOB on VVS forces in Romania, signals intercepts and information from POW interrogations of Soviet air crew who had been stationed in Romania and were later shot down over Hungary, Czechoslovakia, etc. There is quite a bit of it but very scattered. Re: Looking for VVS airfields info
Everything is in the T-321B listing. You should take a look at all of the Lufwaffenführungsstab Ic and Ic/FLO files in the following rolls:
80 - 97 121 - 125 262 - 274 Everything of interest is in those rolls. Will it give you day-by-day details on what every VVS command, air and ground unit in Romania was doing from 19 Aug 44 to 8 May 45? No, but you will find a lot of excellent information not available elsewhere, except maybe in the Russian military archives in Podolsk, outside of Moscow. L. |

Re: Looking for VVS airfields info
Many thanks indeed Larry, every little bit of info from there will be most helpful for me. And indeed i'm sure they're pretty much impossible to get from other places.
I just went through the guide...the info there is STUNNING ! Last edited by muggs_ro; 22nd December 2012 at 18:11. |

Re: Looking for VVS airfields info
Hi muggs_ro (Dan, perhaps?),
I am hoping to contact you by resurrecting this nearly 2 year old thread. As one of the most renown and respected authorities on the AAR duringh World War II, can you recommend books or websites that provide the wartime bases for each unit and the dates each was based or stationed at a particular airfield? I know about the website www.worldwar2.ro, which gives me this information for the AAR fighter units, but not for the AAR bomber, reconnaissance and other formations. Any help would be appreciated!
