Ltn Max Clerico 8/JG54

Hi guys

Clerico was shot down and wounded over Stolp, Germany on 11 May 1941.

Does anyone know the circumstances?

Cheers

Brian:

What is the source of your information about Ltn. Max Clerico becoming a casualty near Stolp, Germany, in May 1941? Owing to the date and place, there seem to be only two possibilities: (1) friendly fire, or (2) mistaken data.

III./JG 54 was in a non-combat mode undergoing conversion to the Bf 109F-2 at Stolp near the Baltic Sea coast in mid-May 1941. The location would thus appear to be well outside the range of Soviet aircraft as well as chronologically before the commencement of hostilities with the USSR. Stolp was outside of RAF operations at this time as well. An additional question mark is that Ltn. Clerico was assigned to 7./JG 54 during the period of the Battle of Britain—when did he transfer to 8./JG 54?

Hi

Clerico was in his time in the III./JG 54 in the 7.Staffel, and on this date he had appendix-operation.

Re: Ltn Max Clerico 8/JG54

Hi Brian,

I have a list which shows Clerico in some incident at Stolp on 21st (its hand written so could be 11th) May 1941 while in 7/JG54. No aircraft details shown.
Looking at Christians post and my list in the fate column there is some symbol and in the comments someone had added Operation (In English) and LEBT which I suppose means survived.

Regards

Re: Ltn Max Clerico 8/JG54

Hello,

A little off the point of the direct question, but does anyone know what plane number Clerico was flying during the Battle of Britain? The tail of this plane was illustrated years ago in one of the Ries books on victory tabs and markings.

Regards,
