Syracuse Oktoberfest 2009

It's all over, and the 50th is next year, but my son Walt and I enjoyed the Family Day on Sunday, if it was a little bit rainy.

Just sharing a cute picture of him eating a pretzel - you couldn't take it away from him!

Yes, Pilot, it is - it's a small one as Oktoberfests go -and there's another, earlier one in August (Usually the first Sunday) called Bavariafest - we have two German-American societies over here - the German-American Society that I belong to, and the Bavarian Almensrausch (probably spelled that wrong, it's late and I'm tired), which I cannot belong to as I am not Bavarian (that we know of according to family records)

Our "Oktoberfest" is in September, usually the last weekend, and runs 3 days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It's small, usually a couple of food tents (Brigitte's Feldkuche is the main one) and some music and crafts, with a rock band for the younger set in the evening, and naturally a beer tent, usually with imported German along with American beers.

Last year, I worked at the Kartoffelpuffer tent, and my apron, despite several washings since last year, STILL smells of them!

We couldn't work it this year, as we didn't have a baby sitter, but next year I am being "drafted" by my Silesian friend for the limburger sandwich tent.

..... I think I'd rather smell of kartoffelpuffer than THAT...
