JW pilot flightbook

Gentlemen,

Several questions on the status of Jagdflieger flightbooks:

1. Was it usually filled in by pilot itself or by personel of group stab? Was it usually filled just after the sortie or it was secondary source based on operational documents of the unit?
2. Where did they stored during the hostilites and what was their fate in case pilot was killed or transffered to another detachment? After being closed were they transfered to RLM or another institute or became personal belonging of pilot?
3. Was it a common practise to bring flightbook to combat sortie? I have examples when German pilots were captured together with their documents including flightbooks (e.g. Uffz. Rolf-Dieter Schafer of 1/JG52)

TIA

Re: JW pilot flightbook

Nikita, I have a couple of log books from my uncle, and he usually filled in the books himself, I'm assuming right after the sortie. However, on a couple of occasions, personnel who accompanied him on the flight have filled in the log, including Prinz zur Lippe a couple of times. His completed log books became his personal property, and I don't think he flew with them due to the risk of loss.
