Talking bf109e

Hi, I have just bought an Airfix 1:24 Messerschitt bf 109 e and would like to give the engine, in particular, as much detail as possible. I have Googled and Amazoned but without much success. Do any of you have a book reference I could look for please?

Re: bf109e

Japanese book Aero Detail is very good- all in one solution.

Cheers

Re: bf109e

There are two relatively cheap walk arounds available for the Emil.

I'd start with taking a look at the Squadron/Signal book, which is fine.

The Aero Detail book is (very) good, but at a price and its written mostly in Japanese.

Re: bf109e

I too, recommend the Aero Detail volume (which cost me $US 40 back in 1994) but expect that your most cost-effective option is to use the Squadron/Signal volume (c. $10). It has many excellent pictures and paintings.

A better book that was in fact created for modelers to enhance the details of the Airfix 1/24th scale kit and also to guide in the modification of it to create other versions such as the E-1 or the fighter-bomber versions and even the B/C/D versions!

Cross, Roy, Gerald Scarborough. Messerschmitt Bf 109, Versions B-E (Patrick Stephans Ltd)

Unfortunately finding a copy would be rather difficult. I obtained mine in 1974 from Squadron Shop for a mere $2.50!

The ultra fanatic might only be satisfied with original technical manuals. I obtained a bound hardcover reprint of the Bf 109 E Flugzeug Handbuch - L.Dv. 556/0 which I obtained from Richard Lutz in Diamond Bar , California back in 1996 for the princely sum of $90. It has everything.

It might amuse the readership of this Discussion Board that there is a company that makes a large scale flying model of this plane in fibreglass (and many others) in fibreglass:

The company owner, Andrew Kondor, tells me that he wishes to produce a larger scale kit of this aircraft with greater detail. I have offered to loan him material from my collection to help out (KMP is located here in Thunder Bay).

Good Luck!
