Picture of LW plane with SD-2
Dear Friends,
i need a picture of a LW plane with "Rosten" and "SD-2" in 1941. Does anybody has such a photo or know somebody, who has such a picture? I would pay for this, even if i would get "only" the copyright. |

Re: Picture of LW plane with SD-2
Yes, a very interesting photo. But the caption is wrong. According to a Messerschmitt document in my file, the ONLY Bf 109 Emils eligible to carry the SD 2 were the Bf 109 E-7/U1, U2 and U3. No other Emil subtypes were authorized. In fact, the Bf 109 E-1/B, E-3/B and E-4/B were built to carry only 50, 250 and 500 kg bomb(s) in various combinations. The E-7 and E-8 also carried these bombs but without any notation change to their series designations.

Thanks! Looks indeed very interesting. Does anybody know, how to get a copyright permission? I need it for a quite commercial use.

Re: Picture of LW plane with SD-2
Bf 110s of SKG 210 also used SD2s on the Russian Front in 1941.

Re: Picture of LW plane with SD-2
First use of SD-2 was on 29 october 1940, during "Opernhalle" operation - massive JaBo raid on RAF airfields. Almost all JaBo staffeln, together with 3./Erpr.Gr.210 and II.(Schl)/LG2 flew on that raids. Many of them used SD-2 on their Bf109E-4/B's and E-7/B's.
Photo above shows Bf109E-3/B with emblem of II.(Sch)/LG2, summer 1941, Belarus region. SD-2 were, as John stated, very widely used by SKG210 (and after 4.1.42 - ZG1) during its first tour on Eastern Front, 22.6.41 - march 1942.

Re: Picture of LW plane with SD-2
Hi all,
The SD2 hung in so-called "Schüttbehälter". I don´t know the english translation to this word - maybe something like "bulk container" ? Just talking about cluster weapon - have you ever seen the MRCA Tornado dropping cluster bombs ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLqCxCLKfGk or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg9uo...eature=related Here something more about SD-2 : http://www.inert-ord.net/usa03a/usa6/bfly/index.html Regards, JohnnyB |
