BoB - three Do17's downed with one shot - Horton Kirby ,Kent

Hi all, first post here after being pointed here from another aviation forum.

Does anyone have any more knowledge of this event listed on the village website in which the Do17's were shot down with a single shot hitting one and exploding it and then damaging the two next to it.

http://www.hortonkirbyandsouthdarent...15-WARTIME.pdf

I used to live in Horton Kirby and after reading the above link, I found out the that AA guns were in the field that was at the end of the garden of our house. The crashed aircraft were also less than a 1/4 of a mile from there too.

If anyone has any photos of anything connected to this event or to any other in this area, I'd really love to see.

I spoke to my Dad about this and he related the story that he had been told by a villager who said the same on the crashed Do17's, and also told him that during the war several crashed aircraft were stored near the village. I found out there was a small flying club in fields just outside of the village that was an emergency landing ground, not sure if that is related in anyway though.

Basically, if you have any info or pictures of this area and it's crashed German and British aircraft, I'd be very grateful if you could please post what you know.

Many thanks

From the Battle of Britain Historical Society website, http://www.battleofbritain1940.net/0038.html this extract as follows:-
Quote:
1240hrs: Although badly mauled, 46 Squadron keeps up the attack, and together with 222 Squadron and 605 Squadron chase one of the Bf109s and shoots it down near Sevenoaks while two Hurricanes move in and finally bring down one of the Do17s over Maidstone. Forcing the scattered Dorniers inland, many come under attack by AA gunfire in which it is claimed that two more of the bombers are brought down, both near Maidstone.
The BoB has been minutely examined and I'm sure someone has access to Luftwaffe records of losses sustained that day.
Hope this helps!
