Schulte-Sasse

I have a number of pages from a Flugbuch for a pilot whose surname is Schulte-Sasse. I know very little about him other than he was a Fluglehrer with FFS A/B 11, and FFS A/B 125, I'd be hugely grateful to learn of any additional information anyone else might have to offer.

Doug Stankey will become famous soon enough
Re: Schulte-Sasse

I have checked our database of 31,000 guys and came up dry. I then checked the Kracker database and again nothing. I tried various name variations and no luck. Whoever he was he apparently was not around long.

Sorry about that.

Re: Schulte-Sasse

Hi, Steve...

You'll find the link to 'Kracker' database (list of pilots names) through this link, in itself an excellent site and source of information -

www.aircrewremembrancesociety.com

Select 'Luftwaffe' from the top of the second page, and 'Kracker' is at the bottom of the drop-down list.

Regards...

Paul

Re: Schulte-Sasse

Hallo Steve!

I think, you talk about Josef Schulte-Sasse.
He flew with: Sch/FAR 11, FFS (A/B) 125, Überprüf.sch. LF, Fa. Anton Flettner, Überprüfungslehrgang LF Salzwedel. The other flight log of him also
survived, but I had not yet the time, to check the units on his further career.

Regards

Dirk

Re: Schulte-Sasse

Dirk,

Yes, this is the gentleman. I am principally interested in the brief time time he spent with Flettner but would like to know more about him and his career as I like to have a career overview of all of the pilots who learnt to fly helicopters so they are not just a list of 'names'. I am of course particularly interested in how he came to be instructed on the Fl 282. Does a photo of him exist ? Did he document any of his experiences ?

Re: Schulte-Sasse

Hello Steve!

I only have a copy of 2 of his flight logs (1940 - 45).
No pictures. I can ask the guy, I got my copy from, if he knows more about him.
I looks to me a little bit strange, that somebody, who worked only as a flight teacher is doing flights on a very rare and new airplane, like a helicopter.
Maybe he had a technical background.

Re: Schulte-Sasse

Dirk,

I'd be very grateful if you could. Whilst from his Flugbuch, the assignment does appear to be very random (particualrly given his subsequent posting), this must have been part of a wider scheme. The timeframe pretty much coincides with the instruction of a number of pilots on the Fl 282 such as those from 3./Bflgrp 196. By late 1943 about 20 pilots had apprently been instructed on the Fl 282. Even allowing for those instructed from E-Stelle Travemuende, EuLkdo 20, 3./Bflgrp 196 and RLM officials such as Antz and Kindling, there's are a small number still waiting to be discovered.

If you are able to get any more from your contact, i.e. photo, rank at time of attachment to Flettner, please feel free to PM me. I am happy to contact the family to take this further. Please also let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
