A Bf 109 G-6/AS or G-14 at Paderborn, 1945

Hi there gang,

Just caught this new Bf 109 G-6/AS or G-14/AS picture, shot in 1945 near Paderborn by a member of the 3rd Armored Division Maintenance Battalion. Pfc Eddie Roubic is seated in the cockpit.

http://36thair3ad.homestead.com/3ADM...nalPhotos.html

Scroll down to see it.

The small wing bulges and the D/F loop position and the top of the tall tail unit can be seen clearly. IMHO, the possibility that it could be a G-10 produced by Erla can be discounted as the rear engine bulge can be quite clearly seen.

Cheers
Marc

Re: A Bf 109 G-6/AS or G-14 at Paderborn, 1945

Considering what it is visible, I think that the plane is most probably an MTT G-14/AS, especially due to the very deep oil radiator enclosure which was due to the use of the lower cowl panel taken from those used also in the K-4 production. A G-6/AS never had such lower cowl.

For a more detailed explaination about the use of such lower cowls in the MTT G-14/AS production, you can have a look at this post of mine elsewhere: http://www.network54.com/Forum/47751...27s+G-14-AS...

Hope this helps

Caro Ferdinando,

Thanks for your highly valued input. I hope to find some more Bf 109 G-14 pics as this particular theme gets more fascinating with each new thread devoted to it.

Cheers
Marc
