Avro 674 Regia Aeronautica
Hello All,
The site at http://www.airwar.ru/enc/spyww2/avro674.html states that captured REAF Avro 674s were operated by Italy as spotter aircraft. Is there any verification for this information, photos perhaps? Or is this a myth? Regards, Clint |

Re: Avro 674 Regia Aeronautica
Clint
Since no one has bothered to answer your question, I can make at least a surmise of what I think. No sources I can locate state that any Avros were captured and far less used by the Italians. The Italians had a very brief success during the start of the campaign in 1940 and suffered a crushing defeat soon after and it seems far fetched to believe they captured any Audaxes, especially since the Egyptian AF was sent back to their peacetime bases when the war began. I don't think there exists any serial by serial fate of these aircraft in Egyptian service, but I have not heard of any defections to the German side by any other Egyptian operated aircraft than a couple of Gladiators. Perhaps Håkan has found out more during his and Slongo's researches during this period? Cheers Stiig |
