IL-2 Shturmovik "red 28"
2 seater "red 28" in winter camouflage is depicted in a number of colour profiles on the web and books, at times captioned as being photographed near Stalingrad in 1943.
Is it known if any photos of this a/c exist, were they taken near Stalingrad, and was the a/c a swept wing version? Thanks for any replies. Robert |

Re: IL-2 Shturmovik "red 28"
I was hoping to just give you a URL where you could read up on it ,but no such luck.
it was either at airwarfareforum (now defunct) or the old part of the VVS modeling forum.(we've lost so much) 1) YES ! ![]() 2)I don't think so. it was photographed by LII or NII (state testing institute or Flight testing institute) and I don't think they would have done that near the front. 3) NO ! all NS-37 armed machines were manufactured at Zavod 30 (Khodinka) and had 'straight' wooden wings. I prefer to refer to these as regular as they were far more common than the 'arrow' wings. |
