This was VIII FC F/O 355, mission 130 for the 356th. It was Goldwasser's 10th.( first May 22).
Penetration support to Germany escorting bombers; the 356th left the bombers near Hamburg .
from the 360th diary... " Lt. Goldwasser's oil pressure dropped to zero. He bailed out OK at 11.48 hours from 11,000feet near Zevenburgen, south of Rotterdam".
The 356th put up 44 P-47s with 2 early returns.
Regards Nick

Re: Lt. L.L. Goldwasser 356FG/360FS, May, 31st.,1944

Lawrence L. Goldwasser enlisted as early as in April 1941 at NYC.
His name is mentioned as being involved in a P-47 taxiing accident at Dover AAF, Delaware on 19 Feb 1944. This was with 83rd FG, a P-47 replacement training unit.
Social Security Death Index gives DOB 4 Aug 1916-DOD 20 Jan 2001.
Birth year is consistent with enlistment record.

Groet,

Leendert

Thanks Leendert and Buckeye for the info. I traced the MACR for this crash. It confirms the info provided but raises questions about Goldwasser's injuries. Medical records mention shot wounds to both legs. However the MACR does not mention Goldwasser receiving any hits or battle damage in flight.
