253 Squadron between 18th May and 21st May 1940
Hello,
Can anyone help with details of 253 Squadron between 18th May and 21st May. "I have Twelve Days in May" but am interested in Sgt Bann who was posted too them on completion of his training between these dates. I have proof he was with them, also his letters state he came home with the BEF from Dunkirk. Any details welcome. |

Re: 253 Squadron between 18th May and 21st May 1940
Hi Tapper
I have just written a 20,000 word potted history of 253 Squadron, but no mention of Sgt Bann I am afraid. Cheers Brian |

Re: 253 Squadron between 18th May and 21st May 1940
Hi Brian,
Any indication that pilots with "A" flight flew Hurricanes out to France and left them there for experienced pilots. If yes, is it possible that some of those ferry pilots are not listed by name? Cheers |

Hi Tapper
I expect anything was possible during that chaotic time. Cheers Brian |

As I said elsewhere, I will dig out the ORB details for you shortly although Brian looks as though he has already been down that route. It is quite likely that at that chaotic time, Sgt Bann was posted to the squadron but never got to fly with them - or else never caught up with his allocated unit before being posted on. Further, many ORB's at that period were less than complete or accurate in what they recorded which, sometimes, was surprisingly little. |

Hi Andy,
Yes I apppreciate you are looking through the 253 ORBS for me and do hope you find him somewhere. Just posted the request here too as it always fascinates me what information people have stored away. Good luck in your loft Andy, and keep your eyes open for the never seen 238 Squadron Battle of Britain picture you may have, and have forgotten you did?? |
