P/O Douglas D Smith RN 1945
If anyone can assist.
Can anyone confirm the serial number of the aircraft in which petty Officer Douglas David Smith RN died on 6th August 1945. It crashed on Sawel Mountain in Northern Ireland that night. The engine is with the Ulster Aviation Museum and they want to know the serial number of the aircraft. regards Dennis |

Hello Dennis,
All that I could find - so far is. 891 Squadron Hellcat night flying exercise crashed at Claudy, near summit of Sawell, Sperrin Mountains, Co. Londonderry. Not JV176 but perhaps JV199 ? Alex |

Thanks Alex,
I'm guessing that if nobody is reporting it from the Sturtivant Book then its not recorded there in. Dennis |
