Re: cr. of Ju 52 Montdidier 7th June 44

Hello Barkas,

I do have F/L Burroughs and F/O Bromley, both from 414 Squadron ( RCAF ) claiming a Junkers Ju 52/3m on the 7th June 1944, to the North of Mortagne ( which I found is near Cholet, to the east-south-east of NANTES ). More than 15 men of 2./ZG 1 were killed aboard this transport aircraft.
Maybe your TG 4 machine was claimed by the USAAF? The BEST man to ask that information ( USAAF claim of Ju 52 on that day ) is Mr. Frank Olynik ( the USAAF ESPECIALIST ). You can find him on the Forum´s list. He is a very helpful researcher and man and maybe he can help you with USAAF data.
I will keep searching though...I remember an ABSA 1949-45 site very good with a lot of losses during the Normandy Campaign, but they took it out "of the air"...It was a very good tool for researchers on this period. Sorry, this is what I do have now...
All the best
Adriano

The JG5 book by Werner Girbig has Notlandung Ju52 Montdidier - Bodenpersonal Ogef.Heinz Franke and Ogef.Karl-Ludwig Reiser both killed. The previous day the 6th.June II/JG5 had 13 groundcrewmen killed in the crash of another Ju52 at Pilsen.

Mortagne is in Normandy 200 km far from Nantes in the North, Montdidier /Picardie something 100 km north Paris

Yes, I know Remi...
By the way BARKAS...found two more Ju 52/3m losses for that day and on D-Day:
a) werk 640750 near Cazaux, on the 7th June 1944 ( probably attached to .7/ZG 1 )
b) another Ju 52/3m on 6th June, near Coulommiers ( aboard that machine, Lt Wolfgang Sommer from the Stab I/JG 1 was killed ).
Yours
Adriano

The crash was not at Plzeň (Pilsen), but nearby Obora, 16 kilometers North of Plzeň (Pilsen), Western Bohemia. Are they known names of those Groundcrewmen?

Best regards from Bohemia

Thaks gentlemans,
you all are right, but this case is well know from W.Girbigs and G.Ott books.

Please, back to my first question, do you know about Ju 52 crash in Montdidier? It was possible the same convoy of JG 5´s personal as crash close Pilsen.
