Formula One drivers in the Luftwaffe

Karl Kling (Mercedes) and Hans Klenk (Veritas Meteor), two Formula One drivers served with the Luftwaffe during the war. At the end of 1940 Kling was sent to Norway as a public relations officer with the Luftwaffe; then, in September 1941, transferred to Daimler-Benz aero-engine technical assistance, attached to Bf109 fighter squadrons at Petsamo in the Arctic. According to one source he personally flew Bf109s on test, and from April 1944 served with the home defence squadrons in Germany. His best friend, Hans Klenk has been described as a wartime pilot.
Does anyone have a record of which Luftwaffe unit they served with?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Formula One drivers in the Luftwaffe

Sorry to be a pedant, but this was the Grand Prix period. Formula One did not commence until after the war.

Re: Formula One drivers in the Luftwaffe

Not only pedant VtwinVince but also uncorrect !
Karl Kling was the teamate of Fangio with Mercedes during two seasons and Hans Klenk participated in one World Championship Formula One Grand Prix on August 3, 1952.
Be seeing you !

Re: Formula One drivers in the Luftwaffe

That's what I said, "until after the war". And the correct word is 'incorrect'.
