Flanders soil reveals 65 year old secret ME-110
Good evening gents
Our organisation has recoverd a ME-110 last week in Assenede, East-Flanders Belgium. We knew there was "something" in the ground in a farmers field after years of prospecting, research and deep scanning for any foreign objects. The scanner went totally nuts at one point and pointed out that there was someting at a depth of 6 meters Eyewitnesses had seen an aircraft coming down in 1943. The crew were able to leave the aircraft uninjured by parachute before the plane hit the dirt. In co-operation with the gouvernement we got a green light yesterday to see wat was in the ground. We are one of the sole organisations that have a permit under the Belgian law to excavate WW2 airplanes. The weather was fairly good so we had a go at it. I would like to share the result of determination and patience of the BAHAAT crew. The crash-site ![]() Lots of bits and pieces ![]() ![]() Oxigen bottles ![]() 20 mm cannons bended Mg 17 ![]() the other MG17 ![]() Well that's wat it looked like originally ![]() 2 Daimler Benz 601 engines as used in a ME110 ![]() Text on one of the oleostruts ![]() Wheel and oleostrut of the main gear ![]() Props ![]() Hispano 20 mm canons ![]() 1 of the main gears and the tailwheelassemble ![]() Notice the black painted part from one of the rudders or fin, Swastika? ![]() One of the engines is severely damaged, could be an indication that one side of the plane hit the ground first. The other engine is in far better condition ![]() Well it's dirty work but somebody's got do do it ![]() There are lot of other artifacts but thats it for now. The parts wil be displayed in the For Freedommuseum, Knokke Belgium www.forfreedommuseum.be (dutch only for the moment but take the virtual tour!) www.bahaat.be for all other planes we have salvaged. A little coverage from a local TV station http://museumforfreedom.be/AVSjournaal.mpg Dutch only (sorry guys) Cheers Stevo Last edited by stevo0476; 28th September 2010 at 21:00. |
