New Screwball Beurling book
I have just read the new book about George Beurling (Screwball Beurling: Malta's Top Scoring Fighter Ace) and I highly recommend it.
Brian Cull (with Frederick Galea) has produced an important work about one of the most interesting Allied pilots of the war.
Until now, the only biography about Beurling that I'm aware of was 'Hero,' which was written by Brian Nolan almost 30 years ago. It provided a great portrait of Beurling the man and I highly recommend it as well. But 'Hero' was not a great 'blow-by-blow' account of Beurling's combat career.
Cull's book fills the gap with a well-written account that includes a wealth of new information about exactly what the ace accomplished, both over Malta and France. It is also well illustrated and includes a number of photos that I had not seen before.
I found I couldn't put the book down and I did, in fact, read it in one sitting.
