Fw190 pics - long and short nose.

Thought I would post three pics provided by the family of a US Air Force serviceman.

Not 100% but could be at either Kitzingen or Straubing.

Assume a D-9 and F-8 as well as a few others and a Ju52.

Any more info would be interesting to know.

regards

Mark

Hi:

The Dora is White 15, W.Nr. 600651 photographed at Straubing. This photo, less the damage, is published in the latest Dora book Vol 2 from Eagle Editions.

Hi Mark, Jerry, et al,

Thanks for posting these great photos. They helped me fill in some gaps in my data.

  • F-8 5+ I Bk, WNr. 580351, SG unit uncertain, was one of approximately 17 Fw 190s found at Straubing.

  • Ju 53/3m 7A+AH, from Luftverkehrsgruppe Rangsdorf, was found at Mons, Belgium. It also features a yellow diagonal stripe and numeral 3 on its rudder.

Re: Fw190 pics - long and short nose.

Thank you one and all.

So no know unit for the D-9

Did the F-8 belong to SG2?

Thought the yellow cowling ring was with this unit of SG10?

regards

Mark

Nice pictures!

The yellow ring was a marking applied within Luftflotte 4. The machine should also have the yellow "V" under a wing.

Several Schlachtgruppen were subordinated to LF 4 when Germany surrendered, all of SG 10 as well as I./SG2.

The exact location of Straubing WW2 airfield would be Fliegerhorst Straubing-Mitterharthausen - different to current Straubing-Wallmühle airfield

Re: Fw190 pics - long and short nose.

Dear Mark,

I can not say anything about the identity of these aircraft. However I am very sure that at least one person here at this forum will make some cheap prints from these scans and will sell them at eBay for 6 USD with a statement "All pictures and descriptions used in my auctions under COPYRIGHT and I forbid the use of these photos and information in any manner such as paper or electronic (internet) publications or otherwise. Use is solely based on my authorization only."

I bet he will even say "This item is a new print from the original."

This happened in the past and it will happen again because these "cheap" people are still around.

Best wishes,

batur

Hi all,
These Luftflotte 4 a/c also have a yellow rudder as "black 5" does.
Cheers, Jerry
