Re: Romanian Bf-109 crash 22.dec.44.
There was no such loss on the 22nd. However, next day a Rumanian Bf 109G-6 crash landed near Zelok (?), in the Rimaszombat (Rimavska Sobota) area, following an air combat with German Bf 109Gs. Is this the wreck you have found? It's pretty far away from the location I have given...

We found the engine and sheets.Label on the engine (9. 605 As 0),(Werk.nr-819007/07733,Herst.-hsq).Local people said it was 21 or 22 december. Some say that this aircraft was the German coat of arms, some say that the Romanian had a coat of arms. One local said the pilot again spoke french. The engine was 3m deep but unbroken.

Re: Romanian Bf-109 crash 22.dec.44.
No known Rumanian Bf 109G loss for Dec. 1944 matches your description.
Therefore, it was either another month, or the eye witnesses mix two events, and the wreck you've found was, in fact, a Luftwaffe aircraft.

Re: Romanian Bf-109 crash 22.dec.44.
War episode:
On 23 December (or 24 according to another source) adj. av. Marinciu was escorting several Ju-87Ds attacking targets behind the front in Slovakia. He was engaged by two Luftwaffe Bf019s. Soon they were joined by another two. One of the newcomers managed to get a shot from 90 degreees, which hit his stabilizer. Half of it was blown away. Marinciu was then forced to fly in a straith line and was under constant attack by the German fighters, being a rather easy prey. He made a forced landing between the lines, near Zelok. His Bf-109G6 looked like Swiss cheese and he was wounded at the face, hands and legs. Some Soviet soldiers saved him and taken to a field hospital. Later he was told that the one who shot him down might have been Erich Hartmann.(Zelok-Zeliezovce??) Last edited by sturmgewehr1945; 20th November 2010 at 12:03. |

Another Rumanian Bf 109G was hit in combat on 24 December, but reportedly belly landed, in Soviet zone. No location is given in the document.
