Have fun, will travel

Hi guys!

How can you explain this well-known sentence?

Chris

Hi Chris!

Well, I thought it was the title of an American novel.
However, my searches on the web returned nothing.
I guess my memory played a bad trick on me.

Chris,
Perhaps it is a reference to, or take-off on, the old (American) western TV series, Have Gun, Will Travel, about a gunslinger/problem solver named Paladin, staring Richard Boone (I think).

Enjoy!

Frank.

Yes, Frank, you are correct. A very popular TV series and gave Richard Boone his kick-start into Hollywood. He was a "moralistic" gunfighter for hire. Somehow, I think that's an oxymoron!

John,

Is your reference to `a "moralistic" gunfighter for higher' intended to be a pun? If so, I don't think many non-English speakers will get it. Of course it could just be that you can't spell "hire". But I would prefer to think that it is "flying-finger-syndrome", in which the fingers somehow get ahead of the brain. Something we all suffer from, even me.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Ahhh, you are sharp-eyed today grasshopper! Yes, it was intended to be hire, a case of not flying fingers, but flying brain! Now corrected.
