He 219 W.Nr. 310188

Hello,

Is anything about He 219 W.Nr. 310188 known? I was only able to find a sketch of the abandoned aircraft at owl.cz (the website header at the top), but no information about its history in e.g. Schiffer Publication's He 219 book.

Thanks,

Roger

Hi Roger,
this is one of the He 219s found at Eger/Cheb. You can find some photos of it in JaPo's "Luftwaffe over Czech Territory 1945", page 18 and on this site: http://www.vrtulnik.cz/ww2/protektorat-cheb2.htm

Cheers,
Christian

Roger:

I think there may be some useful leads on this machine in a thread I started last month under the title "Attack on Eger/Cheb" hoping to find more information on an attack by my Great Uncle's 9th AF P-47 unit on Eger/Cheb in April 1945.

Best regards,
Paul Dame

Hi Christian and Paul,

Thanks a lot! That was exactly what I was looking for.

Paul, do you know if gun camera footage survived of that attack? It would be amazing to see the He 219 on such footage and to link that to the photos taken just before or after the war.

Best regards,

Roger

Roger:

I'm not sure whether any gun camera footage exists of the 397th FS attack on Cheb. I do know that my Great Uncle brought back reels of gun camera footage between his first and second tours. Unfortunately, these films were lost in a flood in my Great-Grandparents' house. Even if they had survived, I doubt they would have included the Cheb attack, as my Great Uncle was home between his tours around January to March 1945.

If any footage were discovered, I'd love to see it too!

Best regards,
Paul
