Bodenplatte JG4

On a JG4 loss list the following have been added in ink:-

1.1.45 5 Uffz. Josef Dithner v. - +

1.1.45 Uffz. Heinz Richter v. Flak +

I have seen details of Richters later loss in the Bodeplatte book, are there any details of the loss of Dithner ?

Thanks

Re: Bodenplatte JG4

The list you refer to actually says Uffz. Josef Bittner. The source is originally a DRK-Suchdienst file but there it says the date is 7.1.1944. This matches the loss of;

Ju 88C-6, WNr. 750388, 7./ZG 1
FF: Fw. Johan Pütz
BF: Uffz. Kurt Utlaut
BO: Uffz. Josef Bittner

As 7./ZG 1 became 5./JG 4 and carries the same Fpn, the DRK-Bildlisten carries Bittner under 5./JG 4.

Problem solved...:-)

John

a) The Danish site http://www.ww2.dk/air/zerstorer/zg1.htm says 7./ZG 1 became 9./JG 4
b) Meyer/Stipdonk says 7./ZG 1 became 10./JG 4
c) Rosch states 7./ZG 1 became 10./JG 4
c You say 7./ZG 1 became 5./JG 4

Four second hand sources saying three different things. Care to elaborate? I assume only one of you can be correct, so what is your sources everyone else missed? Also what happened in your sources with the rest of III./ZG 1?

Can also someone say why 7./ZG 1 and 3./ZG 1 changed numbers? From the outside and not knowing any facts, it just seems redicilous... Must be a valid reason for this.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Bodenplatte JG4

Aaah, sometimes I do things too fast....and I needed to go back to the original file on Bittner. The "5" in the first posting caused my mistake.

First Uffz. Josef Bittner, geb. 27.08.1922 Stettenhof/CSR is listed in the DRK-Bildlisten under II./JG 4. His file says Fpn. L55645.

L55645: 7./ZG 1 -> 3./ZG 1 -> 7./JG 4.

Hope this helps,

John

Re: Bodenplatte JG4

Thanks John

Nice to realise that digits sometimes "jump around" someone else but me...

Could you or someone else care to elaborate about the statments made by authors under a to c in my original response and why 7./ and 3./ZG 1 all of a sudden decided to change staffel numbers?

Cheers
Stig

Re: Bodenplatte JG4

Remi,

The loss of Uffz. Heinz Richter on 1.1.45 has remained uncertain imho. There is no concrete proof, but it is accepted that he was initially reported missing but turned up later unhurt. So most likely he made a bellylanding or FSA.

He was actually killed on 16.04.1945 when he was possibly shot hanging on his parachute. He died in Krankensammelstelle 3/503 and is buried in Königswusterhausen.

Uffz. Heinz Richter, geb. 08.01.1924 Neisse O/S.
EM 67013/229.

Cheers,

John
