Allied Claim for Italy-June 44
Recently a friends father told the story of being a young boy in NE Italy during the war and having an Italian Macchi fighter get shot down by a Spitfire overhead. He claimed that the Spit then strafed the pilot in his chute and he fell to earth, landing in front of the village church. I've done a bit of research into the story and did come across a similar tale of a Spit shooting down a 109 in that neck of the woods in June of '44 and then shooting up the pilot in his chute. The two towns are 20 some odd miles away from each other so I doubt it is the same occurance. So could they be the perpetuation of the same story, truth but separate occurrences or...? No axe to grind, just looking at an interesting story in my families neck of the woods. Any help, opinions, direction or whatever is greatly appreciated.
