Most interesting picture of this batch, BoB. October 1940 the seller says. Nice belly landing on beach and "Rote 6". Any suggestion?

Hello Chris,

Two things:
If I understand well, the seller is telling us that the picture has been taken on Wissant beach (AGAAAIIIINNNN?!!!!)
There is no emblem on this plane and - like you said - number is bigger than "normal".
....
Erg.Staffel??
I see only three candidates in this area: Erg.Sta./ either JG 2, JG 26 or JG 27.

This Bf 109 can be from 2./JG 53.
I think - it was not in October. On e-bay has been another photo with this incident - with a lot of people in bathing suit.

Yes Markus you're right, three guys in bathing suit to be exact, the others are well protected, enough for September or October.
Have you ever tried to take a bath over there in August??? Personally I don't do it; the funny thing is that Germans do it, specially in October (warmer than the north see) and, anyway, they needed to take out their clothes to get this plane/Pilot out (?); hence it's not a definitive argument.
If I'm right too, taking count of the orientation of the coast in this area, the plane being almost parallel to the shore, the picture was taken in the morning around (rough) 12.00. The people shadow being very long indicates that the sun was low... September and October sounds good for me. (Before that, no yellow cowling)

For JG 27 ... no way to check (no datas).
BUT: the cowling painting characteristics needed to be checked too, what I didn't yesterday.... It appears it was very commun with JG 3 or LG 2. And the number style matches very well with LG 2, no need to talk about an Erg.Staffel (which remains a possibility because of the overpainted areas)

You talked about the other picture:
I didn't knew it, but I received it yesterday night, sent by one of the good fellows we can "meet" in these columns (They are many fortunatly, thanks god!)

To give an opportunity for all to check what I/we are talking about, here it is! Judge by yourself pals.
