Staffelkapitän of 5./NJG 102 & 7./NJG 2

Hi Guys

Can anybody please tell me the Staffelkapitän of 5./NJG 102 and 7./NJG 2. Am hoping the name Hauptmann Wagner is amongst them during 1944.

Grateful for any assistance

Kind Regards

Johannes

Johannes

Regarding 7./NJG 2 no Wagner listed by Meyer/Stipdonk.

The two main characters 1943/44 were
Hptm Werner Billig 1.9.1943 - 30.10.1944
Hptm Walter Briegleb 26.7.1944 - 15.4.1945

A certain Oblt Heinz Reuter is also listed during a vague period in 1944, meaning he was probably on some 'acting' basis.

The rather odd overlapping of dates between Billig and Briegleb is not explained.

Cheers
Stig

Hi Stig

Thanks for that. Looks like Wagner was with each unit on a temporary basis.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Hi Johannes

Apologies for not checking 5./NJG 102 for you. Rather forgot Meyer/Stipdonk had written an earlier book about traning units and they list the St Kap as follows:
Hptm Gerhard Wojahn 24.12.43-14.7.44
Hptm Horst Langer 15.7.44-10.10.44
Oblt Walter Zupau 11.10.44-15.3.45

No Wagner there either I'm afraid. Was 'your' man in some kind of acting position as well?

Cheers
Stig

Re: Staffelkapitän of 5./NJG 102 & 7./NJG 2

We have him double listed, I think:

WAGNER, Günther. (DOB: 12.08.11). 01.02.43 Hptm., awarded the Ehrenpokal. 02.44 with 6./NJG 102. 06.44 with 7./NJG 2 Credited with at least one night victory.
WAGNER, Günther. (DOB: 12.08.11). 01.08.41 promo to Hptm. 01.03.43 Hptm., awarded Ehrenpokal. 01.06.44 promo to Maj. 22.10.44 trf from the Luftwaffe to the Waffen-SS.

Are these the same person?

L.

Hi Guys

Many thanks for your interest.

Regarding 7./NJG 2 the micro film claim I was investigating has rather bad handwriting, originally I did read the name at Wojnar, but have since been convinced it's Wagner, but Wojnar now seems more convincing, especially with a forename.

Many thanks for your help.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Staffelkapitän of 5./NJG 102 & 7./NJG 2

Hi guys,

Very interesting thread -it appears that Wojahn achieved one (unconfirmed) Abschuss on 24-25.2.44:

Hptm. Gerhard Wojahn 5./NJG102 Halifax 20 km S. Schweinfurt: 6.200 m. 23.15 VNE: ASM

Can anyone provide further information re. Wojahn's career in the LW in WWII and did he survive the war?

Cheers, Theo
