Officers education 1934?
Does anyone know how those who joined the Luftwaffe in 1934 were trained at first? I have the short form of a unit called JR10, does anyone what that is and where it was stationed?

Re: Officers education 1934?
Hello,
first they had a basic education as infantrymen. So I guess your JR10 means Infanterieregiment 10 stationed in Dresden/Saxony. rgds, Bf 110 |

Re: Officers education 1934?
Thimming,
Typically members of the Luftwaffe received their basic training through the Fliegerersatzabteilung the early forerunner of the Fliegerausbildungs-Rgt., which then in turn morphed into the Fliegerregiment. In instances such as what you are indicating the soldier was likely already a member of the German army thus the listing of the Infantry unit. This prior service would have statisfied his recruit training, in most instances and he would have gone on to various Flugzeugfuhrerschule, Blindflugschule etc. to receive his pilot training (similar for BO, BS, etc.). Depending on the flying branch he went into, Kampfflieger, Aufklarar etc. there would be more specific schools associated with those branches. Regards Jeremy |

Re: Officers education 1934?
Thank you very much for that very thorough explanation! Just a thought, since there was "Officially" no Luftwaffe until 1935, perhaps someone who joined up in 1934 had to join an Infanterieregiment in order to then be transfered to a Luftwaffe unit. Could thst be the case perhaps or did the Luftwaffe have it's own basic training already that early?
