Hauptmann Alfred Hammer Flightbook...

Hi all,

and especially Rasmussen and Remi (RT),

Please excuse me if I have "interfered" in a precedent thread from Leo Etgen, asking about Mauptmann Hammer on another recent thread.

I had red your exchanges and, understanding that you probably have copy of original logbook and other documents of this II/JG53 ace, I had let a message in his thread.

It probably was not the good place; sorry!

So I ask it now directly in another thread: do maybe one of you have in his documentation an evocation of the following airfights having involved the II/JG53 on following days and missions:

- mission on november 25th 1944 over the Strasbourg-Haguenau area around 12h25-12h40

- mission on december 12th 1944 about 14h on Bruchsaler area

- mission on december 16th 1944 about 11h45 in Karlsruhe-Landauer area?

I have worked for about 5 years about these 3 missions and would appreciate each little "first hand" detail coming from one of the probable "actor" of one or each of these three airfights, that could confirm some hypothesis I have been working about.

What would be very intersting would be hours of take of, landing, and possible entcountered ennemies of Lt Hammers unit (6th Staffel or probably complete Gruppe in these 3 missions)

I would be very happy to share about them with you.

Cheers;

Mathias

Re: Hauptmann Alfred Hammer Flightbook...

Hello Mathias my copy of his flightbook end on October 20, 1944. In his Leistungsbuch none of this missions is mentioned, maybe he hadn't take part on the missions.

Best regards
Rasmussen

Re: Hauptmann Alfred Hammer Flightbook...

Hello Mathias,

Hauptmann Hammers flight-log has flights on 19/20/24/27 november 1944, but no one on 25. november 1944.

The same for december: 8/15/24 but no one on 12 or 16 december.

Sorry, but it seems, that Hptm Hammer was not involved in the action you are researching.

Carl

Re: Hauptmann Alfred Hammer Flightbook...

Thanks for having checked for me, Carl!

It is known by Julius Meimberg that in late 1944 the experimented Staffelkapitäne of his II/JG53 had a turn-over as leaders of the missions (with Meimberg himself), so that they never flew together in the same mission (Rollwage, Hammer, Hocke/Seeger, and Meimberg). As you conclude, probably Hpt Hammer didn't fly on the dates I'm searching about, and other experimented pilots led these three missions (on december 16th it was Meimberg himself).

Cheers

mathias
