What engine type is this?

Hi there folks,

I just found this photo in a GI album, taken in Germany. I cannot recognize any German engine type for those aero engines...

Any ideas?

Cheers

Re: What engine type is this?

Hi Marc,

A very interesting photograph, indeed. My first impulse is that they are BMW 801TJ power eggs for the Ju 388. However, I don’t recall ever seeing the lower cowl air scoops before.

Re: What engine type is this?

Thanks for our input Steve;

I just checked out the Ju 388, but the cowling does definitely not suggest BMW 801's... And they do not ring a bell for any other German plane type...

Maybe these are US engines power eggs then? The natural metal finish would point in this direction, even if the cowl air scoops are definetely not for a C-46 or a DC-4....

Any suggestions?

Cheers
Marc

Re: What engine type is this?

Seems to me as being a set of Gnome-Rhone 14N radials - e.g. for the Me 323...

Hummm

Not that model, but that one I think. Cooling intake is smaller; Other pictures are available on net. Whatever, Roland got it. Model 48 instead of 49?

Re: What engine type is this?

Thank you for the flowers, guys.
The photo was taken late in the war. Maybe the unpainted engines are even GR 14R turboloaders intended for the Me 323V17 (Me 323G).

Regards

Roland
