Re: Slovenes in Luftwaffe

Dear Klemen,

Try to get Hans Werner Neulen's book "In the Skies of Europe" Crowood Press, 2000. It gives information about all nations.
There was/is also a German version, but the English version is more complete.

Thanks!

Does anyone recognize Otto Kugovnik? He was a jet ace (Me 262?) according to http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=82208&highlight=slovenia

Re: Slovenes in Luftwaffe

Hi Jaap
As an aside, in what way is the English version of Neulens book more complete?

German should after all be his native tongue

Cheers

Stig Jarlevik

PS: The book is also being published in French

Re: Slovenes in Luftwaffe

From the "Introduction to the English Edition"

"The author is pleased to take the opportunity offered by this English edition to correct a few errors found in the original German edition, adjust the list of the most successful Italian fighter pilots in accordance with the latest research data, and include some additional material. This relates to Russian airmen serving in the German Luftwaffe and the Dutch pilots, whose almost unknown story is described in a short new chapter."

Thanks Ed

In your opinion, since I believe you are in possession of the English version, are the additions worth buying the book again? I have the German original version

Re: Slovenes in Luftwaffe

Not having seen the German edition, I can't say, since I don't know how many corrections were made. The English Edition has 383 pages if that helps.

Re: Slovenes in Luftwaffe

OK Ed
Thanks anyway. The German edition gives 388 pages, so that is not of much use... :-)
Anyone who at this stage could give all of us who just have the German edition some update on the Dutch section? Pilot names and achievements would be fine with me.

Re: Slovenes in Luftwaffe

Another Slovene in the Luftwaffe was Captain Marijan J. Gorican, a Do 24 pilot with 7. Seenotstaffel at Athens-Phaleron, who defected to the Allies at Aleppo, Syria on 7 September 1944.

Re Neulen's book, the English version is just out in softback.

Couldn't tell you what he says about the Dutch pilots but he does have a weird claim that there were Italian pilots in Nachtschlachtgruppe 9. I'd love to know his source for that!
