Major Wilhelm Schmitter

It takes me forever to get this information onto my website due to lack of time but I did manage to get this 95% complete.

This group (click on link below) is to Major Wilhelm Schmitter who is familiar in a number of threads but hopefully this creates a more comprehensive picture of his career.

http://www.aufhimmelzuhause.com/id101.htm

At times the missions seem redundant but when one thinks about the vast amount of hours of training that these Luftwaffe and Allied pilots went through only to be sacrificed for a "noble cause" it is pretty amazing.

Anyway I managed to put this portion of his group/career together from three seperate dealers over 10+ years so hopefully you guys find it informative.

Cheers

Jeremy

Re: Major Wilhelm Schmitter

A fascinating collection and biography on a subject I'm very interested in, having visited Schmitter's crash site recently. Excellent work.

Amazing and wonderful collection - and thank you for sharing from someone with a long association with the loss of Schmitter and Hainzinger.

I think I have some other small pieces somewhere of Schmitter's Me 410.

I ought to let you have them, I think!

Re: Major Wilhelm Schmitter

So, is there any strong evidence for what the camo scheme would have been for the Me-410 A-1 WNr 10244 Red B in which Schmitter and Hainzinger lost their lives on Nov 8/44?

Re: Major Wilhelm Schmitter

OK, thanks. Looks like RLM 76 behind it, so no black-out sides like on 14/KG2 machines.

Re: Major Wilhelm Schmitter

Nick thanks for the comment much appreicated.

Andy I really love that fragment from Schmitter's a/c I wasn't aware you have the key piece which lead to the identification of his Me410.

Great artifact!

Cheers

Re: Major Wilhelm Schmitter

Jeremy, as you have so many related documents to Wilhelm Schmitter, any clues to where his RK is? Auctioned or remaining with relatives of the man?
