KG 2 loss on 10/8 1942

On 10/8-42 KG 2 lost Do 217E-4 w/n 4242 coded U5+TK and its crew. Uffz Hans-Ulrich rests in Lemvig cemetery in Denmark.
What Staffel was it from ? Where was it operating from and on what operation was it lost ?

2/KG 2, target Birmingham flying from Gilze-Rijen. I presume you are writing about Uffz Lossack? Ac probably shot down by 29 Sqn

I am adding to my home page about losses connected to Denmark, and are presently working on fall 1942. I hold the RL 2 III/762 but that only gave the info I mentioned above.

I don't know what detail you want on German actions relating to this loss. But, here is a brief account of the attack from Ulf Balke's book on KG 2: The target of the night was Peterborough, with some a/c to attack Liverpool, with KG 2 a/c beginning their take-offs at about 23:30. But, because of rotten weather, the bombers scattered bombs, not only on Peterborough and Liverpool, but also, according to German reports, on Brighton, Manchester, Luton, Middlesbrough, King's Lynn, and in the area of Newcastle. Strikes by incendiary bombs were noted, with 14 fires breaking out in Peterborough, and the cathedral being slightly damaged.

As Chris said, Fw. Zaglmeyer's crew was headed for Birmingham, when it was shot down posssibly by the Beaufighter of S/L Barham (29 Sqn) about 65km NE of the Happisburgh-LIght.

Of that night, Barham says: "Next night we were scrambled again and G.C.I. told us there were several "bandits" approaching the Thames estuary. We got AI contact and closed in on a Dornier 217 at 7,000 feet. This aircraft didn't see us and we opened fire at very short range from below, sending it crashing into the sea."
